                                          "Urban Sustainable Development Thorough Tourism Program"; Pilot City: Khorramabad



"Urban Sustainable Development thorough Tourism Program of Khorramabad City" seminar and exhibition was held in the Urban Planning Department of Vienna Municipality, in 27th May 2011 and in collaboration with UN-Habitat Best Practices Hub-Vienna, office of the Governor General of Lorestan Province, Vienna Municipality and International Art & Architecture Research Association (IAARA) as thematic Center of BLP UN-habitat in Iran.

The project is trying to make a pilot for urban sustainability based on tourism potential to improve quality of settlement in old cities. This event was held with the aim of sharing the achievements and research outputs with the urban managers and experts of Khorramabad city for coming to an agreement on the effective strategies.

The seminar was started by the speech of Angelika Winkler, vice-head of urban development and planning and transport planning and mobility strategies of Vienna municipality.
Then Reza Pourvaziry, president of IAARA explained the process of the project, and Ahmad Azarmnia, deputy general director for International Affairs of Ministry of Interior of Iran, Mohammad Azizi, deputy of Cultural Heritage Organization of Lorestan Province, and Hamid Reza Goudarzi, general director of Urban and Council's Affairs of Lorestan Province, made some speeches on the project resources and conditions.
In the next section, each of the researchers presented their studies. At first Bernd Lotsch, Vienna university professor and former chairman of Natural History Museum of Vienna, presented his research, then Ariane Muller, Coordinator of UN-Habitat Best Practices Hub-Vienna, made her speech on the result of her study and analysis on Khorramabad. Afterwards, Mohammad Hassan Malekpour, architect and researcher delivered his speech.

Mr. Rashidi Mayor of Khoramabad and Mr. Mohammadi expert officer of the project in Lorestan province presented some comments. And in the end, there were a conversation among researchers and authorities on the existence barriers and problems in Khorramabad.

An exhibition was held by Iranian artist,, Alireza Jahangard, for introducing the tourism opportunities and picturesque and unique view of the city for 3 days.
