A Traditional Iranian concert played for the celebration of World Habitat Day in Qazvin, Iran on October 6, 2008

The United Nations has designated the first Monday in October each year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right to adequate shelter for all. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.

This year the United Nations chose Harmonious Cities as its theme.

A traditional Iranian concert, organized by IAARA, performed for the celebration of World Habitat Day in the historical city of Qazvin. Over 1000 people showed up at the concert which also included famous Iranian artists such as Abbas Ghaneh. A lecture was also given by IAARA President Mr. Reza Pourvaziry.

The orchestra group "Najva", which consists of 23 musicians, played their heart out in this unique performance titled "Kohane Boom va Bar" with the guidance of composer Seyed Kamal Rezai, while sound editing was done by Mohammad Reza Kakavand. Afterwards, Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to the members of the orchestra by Mr. Pourvaziry.

Qazvin, which is currently selected for the Local Agenda 21 programme and has been recognized by the UN as a pilot for tourism in Asia, has tremendous potential in terms of urban space. At the moment IAARA is working closely with urban managers and local authorities in Qazvin to ensure that in the future it will use efficient strategies in their approach to urban issues.
The goal of Najva is to represent Qazvin as a shining diamond which obtains its shine from the people of the world. This young group uses a mixture of classical Iranian instruments, and was able to attract 2500 people. Furthermore, over fifty people from costume designers, film experts, and lighting and sound technicians contributed to the high quality of the concert.
Qazvin, already a city with a rich history of music, hopefully began a new chapter in its history through the determination and motivation of the Najva group.

The concert was made possible with the partnership of the Qazvin Municipality, the Cultural and Heritage Organization of Qazvin, the Music Association of Qazvin, and the Qazvin Office of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
