IAARA has launched an Urban Space Development Project in the city of Bam
The governor general, the mayor, the chairman and members of the Bam City Council and, the managers of this southern Iranian city as well as the chairman of the Academy of Urbanism in the UK and the UN-Habitat Regional discussed issues related to sustainable development as well as successful and unsuccessful cases of urbanization in a number of world cities.

Also, during a ceremony held on the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the regional representative of UN-Habitat and the Municipality of Bam, was unveiled. The participants then visited the sites proposed for the Bam Urban Space Development Project.

In 2003, more than 26,000 people were killed when a 6.5 earthquake destroyed this historical city.
