IAARA at the 20th Session of UN-HABITAT Governing Council

The International Art and Architecture Research Association were invited to attend the 20th session of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT.

Every two years, UN-HABITAT’s work and relationships with its partners are examined in detail by a Governing Council composed of 58 member countries of the United Nations. It is a high-level forum of governments at the ministerial level that sets UN-HABITAT’s policy and approves the agency’s work programme and budget for the next two years.

The 20th session of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT was held from April 4-8, 2005. The meeting took place at UN-HABITAT headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The session focused on the main themes of:

IAARA presented the World Olympiad for Urban Design (WOUD) in a meeting at the Governing Council with the presence of journalists and local newspapers. Attending the meeting were ministers, urban managers, and diplomats from numerous countries.

In addition a protocol was signed between Reza Pourvaziry, IAARA President, and Nicholas You, Senior Advisor Policy & Strategic Planning at office of UN-HABITAT Executive Director, Vincent Kitio, Best Practices Officer, and Daniel Biau, Director of Regional and Technical Cooperation Division at UN-HABITAT recognizing IAARA as the official BLP partner and representative in Iran.
